The Canadian Home Builders’ Association of British Columbia (CHBA BC) and BC Homes are pleased to announce the finalists for its 2013 department G Awards, which honour residential sustainability in our province. The awards, which will be presented at a gala reception September 28, 2013 at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel in Vancouver, were open to all British Columbia residential professionals certified with Built Green®, R-2000, and/or licensed with EnerGuide for New Homes. InHaus Development has been announced as a finalist in the Most Innovative Certified Home category for their Beachaus project in White Rock, BC.
“We were very impressed with the calibre of entries which we received from across the province in eight categories,” said CHBA BC CEO Neil Moody. “These specialists set themselves apart by leading the industry in sustainable building and setting an example for environmental stewardship. The finalists include a wide range of residential projects ranging from log cabins in rural communities to townhouse developments in urban centres. We are pleased to be able to honour those who have integrated sustainability features in affordable and innovative ways into their renovations and new construction.”

We are very excited to announce our upcoming boutique 20 unit BuiltGreen 4Star condominium building in the fantastic Seattle community of “Old Ballard”. For those who haven’t been, Ballard is a historic but trendy area that still retains its “small town” feel within Seattle, and was named “best Seattle neighborhood” by Seattle Magazine and USA Today. If you’re hungry, Ballard was also named the “Best Hood” for foodies, with numerous restaurants, pubs and shops all within a 5 block radius of the project.
Our planned units range from approximately 500sf-1200sf with underground parking available for the larger units (no “apodments” here). The building will feature floor-to-ceiling windows, modern concrete look floors, european kitchens, energy efficient appliances, smart wiring, common rooftop deck with sweeping views and more. Better yet, the pricepoints are geared towards first time homebuyers, and the building strives to offer the lowest monthly HOA dues in the area.
The building is targeting BuiltGreen 4-star certification, with a focus on healthy environments for our future homeowners. The location is rated as a 97 Walkscore – a “walker’s paradise”, and is also located less than a block from the Microsoft Connector stop. To top it off, we are directly across from the brand new, stunning mixed-use project “GreenFire Campus“, the highly lauded sustainable development that opened in June 2013.
While the details are hush-hush for now please fill out the form located here and give us an idea of what you are interested in – we’d be happy to keep you in the loop…

Over the past four years we have been following the development of a number of single family “green” homes in Portland, Oregon. Portland pretty much boasts the highest concentration of certified homes (ie: LEED, Earth Advantage, Energy Star) in the northwestern US. As these homes have been built, sold, and even resold, a strong pattern is emerging that the resale values of certified green homes dramatically outperform standard non-green homes of similar age and size.
According to the Earth Advantage Institute, existing homes with sustainability certification sold for an amazing 30 percent more than homes without. This isn’t an overnight phenomena, as the resale data shows the values have been increasing year over year, for the last 4 years that they have been able to track the data. We feel that this is great news for our prospective home buyers. Not only do they have the knowledge that they live in a low-impact, ultra efficient & high quality home – they can also be assured that they made a wise investment from a future resale perspective.
